— The first graders of Hilltop Country Day School celebrated their own Australia Day.

After an extensive study of the geography, culture and animals of Australia, the students shared what they learned in a program for their families.

The students concluded the program by singing Kookaburra and serving their homemade Anzac biscuits to the guests. The first graders shared and explained their projects which included clay and cardboard boomerangs decorated with aboriginal stories, dot-painted didgeridoos, models of the Australian flag, realistic pastel koala pictures, aboriginal cave paintings, and a carefully labeled mural of the Great Barrier Reef.

Australia Day in the first grade classroom was an informative and enjoyable experience.
