Students inducted into World Language Nation Honor Society
SPARTA — Thursday evening the Sparta High School auditorium, festooned with flags from several foreign countries, hosted the World Language National Honor Society induction ceremony.
Superintendent Dennis Tobin and Principal Dr. Johnson made opening remarks to more than a hundred parents and others in the audience.
The candle light ceremony included introductions in French, German, Russian, Spanish and, for the first time, Mandarin Chinese, by the Presidents and Secretaries of each of the World Language Honor Societies.
The World Language National Honor Society incorporates five different societies into one, representing the world languages taught at Sparta High School.

Once inducted, the student is expected to maintain the grade averages, peer tutor and if possible, participate in community service language programs.
The number of inductees for each of the languages were: 16 French, 23 German and Russian, 25 Spanish and six for Mandarin Chinese. Three students were also recognized for attaining membership in more than one language.
The program was enriched by the student String Quartet led by Director Loni Bach.
