— On Dec. 13, luminary candle lights will be flickering throughout Sparta and surrounding Sussex County communities to raise money to provide food and shelter for those who need it most in the county.

Saint Kateri Squires Ed Weaver and Ben Insley, two Sparta High School students, are leading the Luminary project again this year.

Together, with the other Saint Kateri Squires, the young men are preparing for the 5th Annual Luminary Night, More than 500 kits have been made and are ready to be purchased and used.

A luminary kit consists of ten white bags, ten vigil candles and sand, and is being sold for $10. Families can line the edge of their driveway or front stoop on the evening of Dec. 13 and enjoy the flicker of light while helping those in need.

Profits will benefit Family Promise of Sussex County, Samaritan Inn and the Sparta Food Pantry.

Participants in Sparta, Byram, Andover, Newton, and surrounding communities will light their luminaries in a show of support to those in need.
