Three Sparta Girls earn Silver Award

Catherine Byers, Jennifer Campana and Marisa Traina of Sparta Girl Scout Cadette Troop 780 were awarded the Girl Scout Silver Award for the re-establishment of a garden at Alpine School into a Seasonal Learning Garden.

The girls weeded, mulched, resoiled, replanted and stained the wood in the overgrown garden. They also repaired parts of the fence and put carved, painted figures and a birdbath in the garden. The Girl Scouts executed the vision given to them by the Alpine School Garden Committee. Students can now learn about the seasons while planting and reading stories that relate to the figures in each season box. Catherine, Jennifer and Marisa would like to especially thank the Garden Committee for their financial support, Gil Thompson and Jeff Trzcinski for their help with making the figures.

They would also like to thank Mohawk Gardens, Tomco Construction Inc, Ailish Alpine Paint Center, Home Depot-Newton, Lowe’s-Newton, Walmart-Newton and Ocean State Job Lot for their generous donations which helped to make this Girl Scout Silver Award a success.
