Yams, corn and potatoes: Hilltop Country Day School students serve up compassion with donations to Sparta Food Pantry

Hilltop Country Day School has been honoring a tradition of donating needed food items for more than 50 years. For the past 25 years, the month of November at Hilltop is synonymous with the Thanksgiving Food Drive. Spearheaded by the Student Council, the Food Drive is an annual competition to see which class can donate the greatest amount of food to help the largest number of people. Each year, all proceeds go to the Sparta Food Pantry.
Each individual class had a specific item to donate: canned yams, corn, instant mashed potatoes. When all of the items were collected, an eye popping 1,000 lbs of food was donated. More impressive, however, was the 183 frozen turkeys donated by Hilltop families.
Head of School, Kevin Folan, commented, “I have long known how generous our families are. This year, however, they surpassed even my expectations."
Hilltop Country Day School is Sussex County’s only independent school serving students in grades Preschool through 8.
