. — Families are invited to the Sussex County YMCA on Sunday, Feb. 18 to explore the array of summer camps available in 2018, including more than a half dozen new sports and specialty camps.
The Sussex County YMCA will provide 11 weeks of day camp this summer for children ages 3 to 15. The traditional, sports and specialty camps all build kids’ self-esteem, confidence and social skills in a fun, safe and enriching environment. Archery, arts and crafts, cooking, games, group swim lessons, nature/science activities, recreational swim, and sports are among the activities children can take part in, along with field trips.
The new camps are:
• Chopped Challenge, where children will learn global culinary skills.
• Build It, where budding builders will design and create bridges, boats, towers, vehicles and rockets.
• Girls Leadership and Mentoring (GLAM), where campers make jewelry and other fashion accessories.
• Troupe, where campers will try their hand at acting, singing and improvisation, concluding with a performance for family and friends.
• Cup Cakes & S’mores, where young bakers will make and decorate the delectable confectioneries.
• Explorers Camp, where the adventurous at heart explore trails, use maps and a compass, and learn outdoor survival skills.
• Multi-Sport, where campers develop skills and strategies in basketball, soccer, baseball/softball, volleyball, lacrosse, hockey and other sports.
The open house runs 2 to 4 p.m. at the newly expanded facility at 15 Wits End Road. Open houses will also be held March 11 and April 15. All Sussex County Y camps are accredited by the American Camp Association and reading time and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) lessons are incorporated into the curricula. Before- and after-camp care is available. For more information, visit sussexcountyymca.org or call (973) 209-9622.
