On May 10, at around 11:45 p.m., Sparta police officer Andrew Spitzer was dispatched to the area of Glen & Walnut roads for a report of vehicle striking a tree. The vehicle involved was a black Chevrolet Silverado.

According to Spitzer’s report, he found Jordan Lang, 26, of Sparta, walking back toward the vehicle. Lang reportedly stated that he was the passenger and that the driver fled on foot towards Jefferson. After searching the area and contacting the alleged driver, police were able to confirm that Lang had been driving the vehicle.

Lang reportedly chose not to perform field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest for a DWI and transported to Sparta Police Headquarters for processing.

At that time, police performed a breathalyzer test, but did not publicly release the results. Lang was charged with DWI, reckless driving, careless driving, failure to keep right, traffic on marked lanes and delaying traffic. He was released to a sober adult and advised of a mandatory court appearance.
