Barton twins lead the way to championship
Newton. Chloe and Lucy Barton of Newton were the driving force behind Blair Academy’s undefeated season and capture of the Mid Atlantic Prep. Conference title.
Chloe and Lucy Barton of Newton, the No. 1 and 2 Varsity golfers at Blair Academy, led the way as the school won the Mid Atlantic Prep Conference title on May 5.
The identical twins helped Blair outplay four other teams to claim the trophy. Blair, which went undefeated all season until the very end and only lost two matches all year, racked up the championship behind the sisters.
Both Lucy and Chloe also clinched a tie for first place for the Individual Lowest Score Award by scoring the tournament lowest of +4 (40) out of 30 girls. Since then, the twins have garnered more attention. On May 21, at the NJ Prep A States tournament, Lucy placed fifth out of a field of 51, just five shots off the winner. And earlier this spring, she was picked to be part of the New Jersey Team for the WMGA (Women’s Metropolitan Golf Association) Golf Illustrated Tournament.
Lucy was one of three juniors picked as New Jersey beat both Connecticut and New York to break a four-year losing streak. Meanwhile, back in April, the sisters placed in the Top 5 in the High school Swing Against Cancer 18-hole tournament that was played at Peddie Golf Club among 40 girls. Lucy took third, and Chloe came in fifth.
The twins are sophomores at Blair. Both sisters aspire to play collegiate golf at a NCAA D1, D2 or D3 school.
