East West students excel in karate championships

— Seven students from East West Karate Academy, located in Sparta, recently traveled to Gatlinburg, Tennessee to compete in the 2017 Isshin-Ryu Hall of Fame Championships.
This team of students was led by advanced black belt Ryan Beebe and included Jonas Fuderanan, Zachary Fuderanan, Ryan Hoo, Kaitlyn Nieuzytek, Edward Nieuzytek, and Kianna Nieuzytek. Congratulations to each of these students who placed as follows:
-Ryan Beebe – kata (1st)
-Jonas Fuderanan – kata (1st), kumite (2nd)
-Zachary Fuderanan – weapons (1st), kata (1st), kumite (3rd)
-Ryan Hoo – kata (2nd)
-Edward Nieuzytek – weapons (1st), kata(1st) and kumite(1st)
-Kaitlyn Nieuzytek – weapons (3rd), kata (2nd), and kumite (1st)
-Kianna Nieuzytek – kata (2nd)
Isshin-Ryu karate was developed on the island of Okinawa by Master Tatsuo Shimabuku. East West Karate Academy is a traditional Isshin-Ryu dojo focusing on speed, simplicity, and practical self-defense. Sensei Klinger is a member of the Isshin-Ryu Hall of Fame and the school was previously selected as “Dojo of the Year” by this national organization.
On Saturday, October 4, the school will be hosting a free open house starting at 10 a.m. at the dojo which is located at 564 Lafayette Road (Route 15) in Sparta.
There will be a series of different programs including an anti-bullying “Bully Buster” seminar, a module on women’s self-defense, and other sections. All ages are welcome to attend.
