Local runners finish five-mile run in memory of Johnny Cobb

BELMAR-The 29th Annual Johnny Cobb Memorial Five-Mile Run was contested in Belmar on Saturday, July 9. The run, originally called the Belmar Five Race/Walk, was renamed the Johnny Cobb Memorial Run in 2002, in honor of his avid participation in the event. George McDonough of Sparta raced to a 62nd place finish in the field of 1747 runners. The 46-year-old was clocked in at 32:26 as he crossed the line at the Taylor Pavilion, on Fifth St. and Ocean Ave. in Belmar. Local runners who finished included: 934. Tom Salmon, Newton, 45:11 940.
