Monaghan leads team in ground balls
SPARTA. Norah Monaghan, a sophomore midfielder with the Montclair State University women’s lacrosse squad, starts in all 14 contests.
Several Sparta High School graduates competed well in collegiate sports during the spring:
• Norah Monaghan, a sophomore midfielder with the Montclair State University women’s lacrosse squad, started in all 14 contests. She tallied 27 goals and six assists with 39 ground balls won, the most of any player.
The Red Hawks posted an overall record of 8-6 with a mark of 5-2 on their home field and two wins in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC).
Montclair State was defeated by the College of New Jersey in the NJAC Tournament in Ewing.
• Aidan Maxwell, a senior midfielder with the Montclair State University men’s lacrosse team, started in all 14 games. He has three goals, an assist and 19 ground balls.
The Red Hawks tallied four overall wins with two victories at home. They lost to Stockton University in the Coastal Lacrosse Conference Tournament in Galloway.
• Beck Gozdenovich was a red-shirt senior who played midfield with the men’s lacrosse team at the New Jersey Institute of Technology in Hoboken. He competed in all 14 games and had four goals, three assists and 21 ground balls.
The Highlanders collected an overall record of 8-6 with a mark of 5-3 on their home field. They had one victory in the America East Conference.
• Emma Dyrsten, a sophomore on the Stockton University women’s rowing team, was a part of the crew that finished in fifth place at the Mid Atlantic Rowing Conference (MARC) Championships held at Lake Mercer in West Windsor.
The Ospreys placed third in team scoring at the MARC Championships.
• Troy Christiano and Kurtis Cina were freshmen on the Kean University men’s lacrosse team. Cina, a defender and midfielder, played in 13 games and won two ground balls. Christiano, a midfielder, played in eight games and had two goals, one assist and won two ground balls.
The Cougars posted an overall record of 12-7 with a mark of 6-3 on their home field. In the Coastal Lacrosse Conference (CLC), they had two victories.
Kean defeated the University of Mary Washington in the CLC Tournament before losing by Salisbury University.
