SPARTA — Pope John XXIII Regional High School defeated Paramus Catholic High School in girls varsity basketball on Thursday, March 2. The final score was 68-50. The quarterfinals of the North Jersey, Non-Public A tournament took place at Pope John XXIII Regional High School in Sparta.
Kristyn Spetz scored a game-high 25 points, sinking five 3-pointers, and Alyssa Aragona added 13 points with 10 rebounds and four steals to lead fourth-seeded Pope John. Maggie Miller contributed 10 points with two 3-pointers and four steals for Pope John.
Fifth-seeded Paramus Catholic's Sarah Scerbak scored a team-high fourteen points, grabbed five rebounds and made seven assists. Elisha Cross scored ten points, grabbed two rebounds and made one assist. Aria Myers scored eight points and grabbed two rebounds.
Pope John advanced to the semifinals to play the top-seeded Academy of the Holy Angels (Demarest, NJ) on Saturday March 4. The Pope John Lions lost to the Holy Angels 50-41.
