Sophomore wins bronze in javelin event

Sparta High School sophomore Isabella Frattura continues to excel in track this season.
She took home the bronze medal in the javelin event with a throw of 115-07 to pace the Spartans at the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA) Group 3 championships on Saturday, June 10 at Delsea High School.
Frattura had won gold a week earlier at the sectional championships with a throw of 126-05.
Also at the group championships, she was 16th in the high jump with an effort of 5-00.
Sparta’s 4x800 meter relay quartet of Miliana Dobbs, Ashley Crane, Emma Westervelt and Ava Barone placed 19th with a time of 10:32.57.
Sparta finished 25th overall of 39 competing teams.
Boys tennis
Thomas Schottland did well to reach the fourth round of the NJSIAA Singles Tennis Tournament last weekend but fell just short of reaching the quarterfinal round.
The senior dropped the first set, 6-1, to Ridge’s Archit Yemula in the fourth round Sunday afternoon, June 11 and trailed, 1-0, in the second set before retiring at Mercer County Park in West Windsor.
Schottland, seeded 17-30 for the tournament, had defeated Tanay Patil of Rutgers Prep, 6-1, 6-0, in the first round and Ashish Gainder of Pinelands, 6-0, 6-0, in the second round Saturday before starting Sunday with a 6-2, 2-6, 10-4 victory over Siddharth Arudi of Hillsborough in the third round.
This spring, he helped Sparta win the Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex Tournament team championship for the first time in school history. He also was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player for the third straight season.
