Sparta advances past Pope John XXII in basketball tourney's quarterfinals

Sparta High School defeated Pope John XXIII Regional High School in girls varsity basketball on Saturday, Feb. 10. The final score was 45-20.
The quarterfinals of the Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex Tournament took place at Sparta High School in Sparta Township, New Jersey.
Emily Dilger scored 12 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead fourth-seeded Sparta against 12th-seeded Pope John in the quarterfinals.
Paige Smith added 12 points, four rebounds and three assists and Brianna Falco finished with 12 points, four rebounds and five assists for Sparta. Kenna Squier led Pope John with seven points and eight rebounds.
Sparta will play top-seeded High Point in the semifinals scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 17 in Warren Hills.
Team records: Pope John Lions 12-9; Sparta Spartans 13-6.
