Spartans lose squeaker to Ramapo

SPARTA — Ramapo High School (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) defeated Sparta High School (Sparta, N.J.) in varsity football on Saturday September 1, 2018. The final score was 21-18. The game took place in Sparta.
Both teams played well and it came down to who made the least mistakes. Failed extra point kicks proved costly for Sparta.
Sparta quarterback Kenny Oelkers threw for 114 yards and one touchdown. Austin Castorina rushed for a total of 103 yards and two touchdowns. William Cisko hauled in a touchdown catch in the third quarter. Cornerback Nick Broccoletti intercepted the ball late in the third quarter. But Sparta failed to capitalize with points off the turnover.
Ramapo quarterback A.J. Wingfield threw for 196 yards and two touchdowns. In the first quarter Noah Baker hauled in a 30-yard touchdown catch but suffered a season ending broken ankle injury in the process. Luke Ragone rushed for one touchdown in the first quarter. Ragone also hauled in a 53 yard touchdown catch in the second quarter.
