Young fencers compete for medals
SPARTA. Local students win one gold, two silver and one bronze medals at a competition in Little Falls.
Young fencers competed at the National Fencing Alliance (NFA) Youth Fencing Cup last month at the Little Falls Recreation Center.
The categories were mix saber, epee and foil. The younger fencers competed to five touches. In direct elimination, they competed to 15 touches.
Young NFA Spartans won one gold, two silver and one bronze medals.
In Youth Mix Epee, Aneesh Lyer of Sparta High School) placed first and Devan Barber of the Police Athletic League (PAL) in Sparta placed fourth.
In Youth Men’s Saber, Adrian Appelbaum of Sparta High School pleaced second and Ray Galinski of Sparta PAL placed sixth.
In Youth Men’s Foil, Roman Concha of the Morris Catholic/Pope John high school team placed second.
In August, NFA will host fencing summer camps for beginners and intermediate fencers at in the PAL main gym, 38 Station Road, Sparta.
