History is knowledge dealing with past events,
For many of our citizens brain-challenging torments.
Churchill said those who ignore history will repeat it,
Voltaire noted people, not history, were the culprit.
All history has opinions and many facts and dates,
Tempered as the writer’s perspective dictates.
Written in imperial periods judgmental
And exclusionary times patriarchal.
In warlike hierarchical societies,
Narrated in naïve subjective proprieties.
We know winners write history,
But research now reveals their bias revelatory.
So is our written history art or science?
A profound question with the answer: It’s an alliance!
