Scott, Murphy would serve Sparta well

I have lived in Sparta since 1983. During my time here, there have been many changes to the community; population growth, new businesses, more traffic and some newer concerns. Some changes were positive, other changes less transparent.

As a business owner who works in an environmentally sensitive industry, I take great concern to the proposed transloading/mega-warehouse 14 feet above our aquifer.

This brings me to two candidates that I hope you would join me in considering your vote for them: Marjy Murphy and Mark Scott running for Sparta Township Council on Nov. 5.

I have known Marjy for over 20 years and am familiar with her professional background in sales and marketing as well as serving as chief operating officer in the beauty industry.

As a homegrown Spartan, she is active with the Sparta Food Pantry and has been involved with the Lake Mohawk Ski Hawks for decades.

Marjy is married to Mark Scott, also running for the Township Council.

I have had the pleasure of knowing Mark for about 10 years. A resident of Sparta since the early 1990s, he has raised his daughters at Lake Mohawk.

Mark established Commercial Mortgage Capital Corp. over 35 years ago. The business operates in the commercial real estate lending platform in the tristate area. He presently is active and serves as president.

Mark is also involved with the Lake Mohawk Preservation Foundation, actively working to preserve the remnants of the historic gatehouses in the Lake Mohawk community.

Both Mark and Marjy are passionate about engaging in public advocacy for the benefit of all citizens. I believe their respective skill sets will serve our Sparta community well.

You may know their names, have sat next to them at a council meeting but do not know of their great concern regarding our drinking water.

I believe that Marjy Murphy and Mark Scott possess the necessary skill set and prudent decision-making skills that would truly make them an asset to our Township Council.
