The truth as I see it

Thanks for printing my recent letter and the opposing letter from Carolyn Anderson of Hardyston.

Do not give in to her call for you to censor me and others with whom she disagrees. The First Amendment protects speech we hate, not speech we find to be palatable.

Our country is already engaged in a second civil war, but so far violence has been limited to Antifa, BLM and the Jan. 6, 2021, rioters.

I think the tone of political discussion is ugly, and I avoid it most of the time. But I didn’t hear anyone defending young people, so I decided to take up my pen.

I knew what I was writing was ugly and offensive, but that is the real situation today. I told the truth as I saw it.

I knew I would offend my enemies, but I also knew I would encourage those on my side.

If one side can censor the other, facts will be distorted and decisions will be made using faulty information.

To be simple, I place Americans in two opposing camps: communists versus patriots. Now the communists are calling for patriots to be censored and lose their jobs. Next they will advocate sending us to re-education camps.

You are doing the right thing by presenting both sides. Keep it up, even though I know political discussions are belligerent and ugly, as I’m sure they were in 1860.
